PBSI: Indonesia's 2024 Results So Disappointing

JAKARTA Head of the Development and Achievement Division of PBSI Ricky Soebagdja said that there will be a major evaluation after the host athletes have zero titles at the Indonesia Open 2024.PBSI has deployed a total of 18 representatives in the event. However, only two representatives can travel the farthest in this tournament to the quarter-finals. "We both know that this is certainly very, very disappointing for sure. Far from the expectations of PBSI and all of us," said Ricky in a press conference, Sunday, June 9. The two representatives who can penetrate the quarter-finals are the women's singles Gregoria Mariska Tunjung and Bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri. Actually, there is one Indonesian representative who reached the semifinals, namely Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani. However, this pair is non Pelatnas PBSI. Tomorrow I will gather with the coach to discuss the results of the Indonesia Open 2024 and the others from the Asian tour," said Ricky. This is the third year in a row that Indonesia cannot get the title at the Indonesia Open. The last representatives who came out to be champions in this event are the men's doubles Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo, who are currently retired. The pair came out as champions in the 2021 edition when the Indonesia Open was held in Bali with a bubble system after the corona pandemic.

For this year's edition, China dominated from five sectors fighting for the title. The country has brought home a total of four titles. The four titles are from mixed doubles, women's singles, men's doubles, and men's singles. The women's doubles title was also secured by South Korea.
