SYL Asks For Accelerated Money Laundering Session, KPK: We Are Still Conducting Investigations

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) cannot follow the request of former Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo to immediately hear the alleged money laundering crime (TPPU) that ensnared him.

Head of the KPK News Section Ali Fikri said the investigation is still being carried out. They are trying to seize Syahrul's assets which are suspected to have come from the corrupt practices he has committed.

"That at this time we are still carrying out the investigation process. We will optimize the asset recovery because of the implementation of the TPPU, the important point is how much the KPK can then steal the proceeds from corruption crimes that turn into assets," Ali told reporters at the KPK's Merah Putih building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Tuesday, June 4.

Ali ensured that investigators would continue to search for the assets. "We are still investigating. Finally, we confiscated a car from its immediate family," he said.

"Yes, it means that it is still growing (the search for these assets, ed)," continued Ali.

As previously reported, Syahrul Yasin Limpo, who is a former Minister of Agriculture (Mentan), asked for the handling of the money laundering crime (TPPU) that ensnared him to be accelerated. His physical condition is an excuse.

This was conveyed by Syahrul in the trial of the alleged extortion and acceptance of gratuities at the Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court, Monday, June 3.

"Your Majesty's permission, with my 70 years of age, I beg, if possible, the ML process can be continued or not to be postponed. I am getting thinner," said SYL

"Therefore, if possible, if possible, the name is a request, the TPPU trial can be continued or what it looks like, sir. It's just a request," he continued.

Responding to the request, Chief Judge Rianto Adam Pontoh said that this matter was not his authority. He said the case was still at the KPK investigation stage.

"The trial is passive, yes, it is not active in ordering the public prosecutor to submit all cases to the court. No. That is the right of investigation and prosecution of course," said Judge Rianto.
