MATARAM - The West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Regional Police (Polda) examined the reporter for the case of marine ecosystem damage in Gili Trawangan waters which had an alleged impact from drilling activities for the installation of pipes belonging to PT Tiara Cipta Nirwana (TCN).

Wiramaya Arnadi, a reporter who was met at the NTB Regional Police, Monday, confirmed that he had complied with the police's invitation to provide clarification regarding reports of damage to marine ecosystems in Gili Trawangan waters.

"Yes, I just finished meeting the Tipidter team (NTB Police) to provide clarification on our report," said Wiramaya as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, June 3.

In this activity, he admitted that the police asked for information about the basis for reporting damage to the marine ecosystem in Gili Trawangan waters.

"So, the question is still about the basis for me to report, that's all," he said.

His party from the Surak Agung community group, North Lombok, reported this case to the Sub-Directorate of Certain Crimes (Tipidter) of the NTB Police Special Criminal Investigation (Reskrimsus) on May 13, 2024.

"At first we knew this case was from Facebook, then we informed the BKKPN (National Water Conservation Area) Kupang, it turned out that they only found out. However, after receiving confirmation from the BKKPN, we chose to go down first to search for information," he said.

The results of going down the field by diving around Gili Trawangan waters, his party found mud deposits around the drilling point for the installation of pipes belonging to PT TCN.

In addition, his party also saw the impact of damage to marine ecosystems in the form of coral reefs around drilling sites.

"That's why, in the report, we participated in a video of marine observations showing silt deposits and damage to coral reefs around drilling points," he said.

After giving the information, he continued, the police plan to ask the Kupang BKKPN for information which has also been revealed to have investigated the damage to the marine ecosystem in Gili Trawangan waters.

"Information from the police, the plan is that the day after tomorrow, Wednesday (5/6), there will be a request for information from the BKKPN," he said.

Regarding this request for clarification, the Head of Public Relations of the NTB Police, Kombes Pol. Rio Indra Lesmana admitted that he did not receive a response from the Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimsus) of the NTB Police.

"I have continued to try to confirm, but have not received a response from the crisus," said Rio.

Regarding this case, the BKPPN Kupang Working Area of Gili Trawangan, Meno, and Air (Tlomena) conducted a field investigation on May 8, 2024, by taking samples of seawater and mud content that deposited around the drilling point for the installation of pipes belonging to PT TCN.

The BKKPN took to the field with a joint team from the North Lombok Police and Air Unit (Satpolairud), non-governmental organizations, divers practitioners, Marine and Fisheries Resources Supervision (PSDKP) of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries in the NTB region, and from the environmental service.

The results of the field are now just waiting for the results of the Analytics Chemical Laboratory of Mataram University (Unram) test related to a sample of mud material deposited on the seabed of Gili Trawangan waters around the pipe installation point belonging to PT TCN.

As a form of commitment to preserve the sea, the Kupang BKKPN stated that it would forward the results of laboratory tests to law enforcement officials.

PT TCN is a private company that collaborates with PDAM Amerta Dayan Gunung, North Lombok Regency, in providing clean water in the Gili Trawangan tourist area.

The company provides clean water from sea water distillation by applying the "Sea Water Reverse Osmosis" (SWRO) method.

The operation of PT TCN in the tourist area has been strengthened by the issuance of a permit from the NTB One Stop Integrated Licensing Investment Service (DPMPTSP).
