Batu City Government Supports Legal Process In Middle School Student Beating Case To Death
Batu City-The Batu City Government has fully supported the legal process being carried out by the local Resort Police (Polres) regarding the case of beating a junior high school (SMP) student which resulted in death. The acting (Pj) Mayor of Batu, Aries Agung Paewai, stated that the incident that caused the victim with the initials RK (12) to die was a severe blow to all stakeholders in Batu City.
"This incident is very difficult for us, both the government and law enforcement officials, because the perpetrators are minors. Of course, the police and the prosecutor's office will move quickly to resolve this issue, we support this," said Aries on Saturday, June 1.
Aries explained that the incident that resulted in the death of the victim was carried out by five children who are now in conflict with the law. This incident will be used as an evaluation material, both in the school environment and in the family, to prevent similar incidents in the future.
According to Aries, in addition to the role of schools, families and the local community also have an important role in supervising children. Active involvement of families and communities is needed to find out their children's activities.
"We will continue to evaluate both in schools and in the family environment. This burden is not only the responsibility of the government, but also the community," he added.
The Batu City Government ensures that it will provide assistance to five children who are in conflict with the law, including ensuring that they continue to receive educational rights. "We will provide assistance to children who are in conflict with the law. We do not want children to drop out of school even though it is in the legal process. After all, it is their right to education that must be obtained," said Aries.

Meanwhile, the Student Care Branch Manager of the Nahdlatul Ulama Student Association (IPNU) and the Nahdlatul Ulama Women's Student Association (IPPNU) of Batu City support the legal process carried out by the Batu Police and strongly condemn student bullying and violence in Batu City. They also encourage the Batu City Government and related institutions to carry out follow-up intensively through education, psychological assistance, and other supporting efforts to prevent bullying and violence in the future.
For information, the victim with the initials RK was abused by a number of friends with the initials AS (13), MI (15), KA (13), MA (13), and KB (13). The incident began when one of the children who faced the law was offended by the victim's request to print school assignments at night. Feeling offended, MA invited a number of other children to persecute the victim on Wednesday, May 29 at 13.30 WIB.
On Friday, May 31, the victim complained of pain in the back of the head and nausea to his parents. The victim's parents then took RK to Hasta Brata Hospital in Batu City at 07.00 WIB, but the victim was pronounced dead at 10.00 WIB.
