Kominfo Godok Rules For Blocking IMEIs, Make Sure HP Thieves Can't Move

JAKARTA - President Director of Standardization of Post and Informatics Devices, Directorate General of SDPPI of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Mulyadi said that Kominfo is still reviewing regulations related to the Lost And Stolen System through IMEI.

This regulation itself focuses on regulations related to mobile phone devices that are lost or stolen. Because all this time in Indonesia, when someone loses their cell phone, they can't do anything, and the cell phone thief can use or sell them freely.

"We want it to be like losing a credit card. We have the right to block the card, we can easily do that but the ownership must be clear. We need to find the concept of ownership of this cellphone," Mulyadi said on Friday, May 31.

Mulyadi also said that Kominfo will cooperate with cellular operators to ensure they do not provide loopholes for illegal cellphones to stay active or used.

He also admitted that the making of this regulation was inspired by the rules set in South Korea for 10 years, and these regulations were considered to minimize the crime rate of theft of cellphones.

"So what often happens is a cellphone that is lost or left behind, so they can return it to the unit that handles this lost and stolen problem, and then this unit sends it to the user," he explained.

Seeing the effectiveness of this policy in South Korea, the Indonesian government through the Ministry of Communication and Informatics is also in the search for appropriate and suitable concepts to be implemented in Indonesia.

"We are trying to find the best concept before it is implemented. Do not let the problem that arises is not a solution. We are trying to finalize the ulu. It will be implemented in stages," he told the media.

He also believes that the control of IMEI in Kominfo has the potential that is used to provide protection for devices to the community.
