Wildlife Sellers Protected In Garut Arrested By Police, Threatened With 5 Years And A Fine Of IDR 100 Million
Garut Police arrested a seller of a number of wildlife protected by law through social media (medsos) in the Bayongbong District, Garut Regency, West Java."We have secured the alleged perpetrator of a wildlife sales syndicate and evidence that has been secured to the Garut Police Headquarters," said Head of the Garut Police Criminal Investigation Unit AKP Ari Rinaldo in Garut, Antara, Tuesday, May 21.Based on community reports and investigations, the police conducted a raid on a place where it was suspected that wildlife was being traded by the alleged perpetrator with the initials WS (42) in the Cilimus Lebak area, Sukarame Village, Bayongbong District, Garut, last Monday.In addition to arresting WS, said Ari, his party also confiscated evidence in the form of wild animals that were still alive, namely one Siamang cub, two Sumatran Forest Cat cubs, two White-tailed Musang cubs, and two Pigkep birds.The WS has violated the rules as explained in Article 40 paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 21 paragraph 2 of Law Number 5 of 1990 concerning Conservation of Biological Natural Resources and Their Ecosystems."The threat is five years in prison and a fine of Rp. 100 million," he said.He revealed a temporary confession from the seller that the wildlife he owns was illegally sold through his Facebook account.
The police are currently still trying to thoroughly uncover the case of the wildlife sales syndicate, and take legal action against the perpetrators."This arrest activity is clear evidence of the Garut Police's commitment to preserving wildlife and eradicating the trade in protected animals," he said.
