Scarlett Johansson Is Upset, OpenAI Uses A Voice Similar To Her
JAKARTA - Scarlett Johansson was upset after learning that her voice was imitated in OpenAI's latest system for the ChatGPT system. She wrote a statement stating that she had rejected the offer before knowing this feature used a voice similar to her.
Johansson admitted that he received an offer to use his voice as a ChatGPT 4.0 system in September 2023. He said OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said his voice was very suitable for the system.
"He (Sam Altman) told me that if he felt it with my voice in the system, I could connect the distance between the company and the creative and helping customers to feel comfortable with the seismic differences between humans and AI," Scarlett Johanson said, imitating Altman's words.
"He said he felt my voice could make people comfortable," he said.
Even so, the Avengers star rejected the offer for personal reasons that were not disclosed. Almost a year passed, he found out the system was using a voice similar to his voice.
"Nine months later, friends, family and the public talked about a system called Sky that sounds like me," Johansson said.

When he heard his demonstration, Johansson was annoyed, disappointed, and angry because Altman tried to use his voice like his voice. He said those closest to him couldn't even distinguish Johansson's voice from the sound of the system.
Altman claims the voice was inspired by Samantha's character, which was filled by Scarlett Johansson in the film Her. Samantha's character is a virtual assistant who is Joaquin Phoenix's co-star.
"Before we spoke, the system had been released," Johansson said again, claiming Altman had contacted him before Sky was released.
"When we are all grappling with deepfakes and protection against our similarities, our work, our own identities, I believe these are questions that require absolute clarity. I look forward to a solution in the form of transparency and ratification of appropriate laws to help ensure that individual rights are protected," concluded Scarlett Johansson.
The Sky system was finally postponed on Monday, May 20. They also released a statement that they used the votes of participants who registered and not Scarlett Johansson's voice.
The sound of Sky doesn't belong to Scarlett Johansson, and never intends to imitate it. We used the voice actor behind Sky's voice before contacting Johansson. As a form of respect, we delayed using Sky's voice in our product. We apologize to Johansson for not communicating well," said OpenAI.
