Dozens Of People Died During Floods Hit Afghanistan

JAKARTA - The number of deaths from floods in Afghanistan's two provinces, Ghor and Faryab, has increased to nearly 70 people. According to Ariana News, as reported by Antara, Sunday, May 19, 50 people were killed and 10 others were missing in Ghor. Meanwhile in Faryab, the death toll increased by seven people.

Floods in Faryab have killed 18 people, Tolo News reported on Saturday. The province of Sar-e Pol was also affected by the disaster.

Ariana News previously reported that flooding also killed thousands of livestock, damaged dozens of vehicles, and closed roads linking Ghor to Herat and the capital Kabul.

Heavy rains have been pouring down Afghanistan since April. Seasonal rainfall worsened last week, causing flash floods in the northern and western regions of the country in Central Asia.
