2 Malaysian Police Killed By JI Members, PM Anwar: Strict Action To Stop This Confusion

JAKARTA - Malaysian Prime Minister (PM) Anwar Ibrahim emphasized that threats from armed crime that undermine peace in his country will be dealt with firmly.

This was conveyed by Anwar in response to the deaths of two policemen following the attack on a man affiliated with the Islamic Congregation (JI) at the police station in Ulu Tiram, Johor Baru, Malaysia.

"We do not compromise in peace matters; the government will take firm action. People's lives are our priority, and progress means nothing if peace is not maintained. Strict action will be taken to stop this evil (violence), and I fully support the steps taken by the police," said Anwar, quoted from Bernama, Friday 17 May.

He also hopes that the public will not give space for those who threaten peace in Malaysia by working together with the police so that they can be dealt with.

"I ask the public to work together, always be vigilant, and not give any opportunities to this evil group," he continued.

Two policemen were shot dead by a masked man who attacked a police post in Ulu Tiram Malaysia in the early hours of Friday, May 17.

The 34-year-old man used a machete to stab the officers and then stole the gun from two other officers.

One policeman the victim was shot on the cheek until the bullet penetrated his head. While another was shot in the shoulders and waist. Both died.

The suspect was then shot dead at the police station in a tempak battle with the authorities.
