Head Of APJII Expressing The Challenges Of Fixed Broadband Equity In Indonesia, Regarding Prices?

JAKARTA - Until now, equitable distribution of the internet in Indonesia is still an important task for stakeholders, so that all people in all corners of the country can feel the proper internet.

Moreover, considering that Indonesia's geographical location consisting of many islands, even distribution of fixed broadband is not an easy thing. Because, not all areas can be reached by fiber cables.

Chairman of the Association of Indonesian Internet Service Providers (APJII) Muhammad Arif Angga is also aware of the difficulty in equitable distribution of the broadband fixed service.

"We know that the current fixed broadband may not yet reach 20 percent penetration in Indonesia. So of course we hope that in the future the even distribution of fixed broadband will be even more massive and indeed this is our common homework," said Arif at the 28th APJII Anniversary event on Wednesday, May 15 in Jakarta.

Arif also admitted that one of the factors that made this distribution difficult to do in remote areas was due to the high cost of withdrawing cables and very minimal access to vehicles.

"Indeed, for cable withdrawal factors, of course, in suburban areas it is still expensive, because logistics and others, development costs are also higher than urban areas that are easier to reach by vehicles," he explained to the media.

Not only that, but different policies or regulations in each region are also another challenge that needs to be faced with internet service providers (ISP) in Indonesia.

"So, apart from that, there are still many regional regulations that can be said to vary, vary, making it difficult as an industry to have a mature calculation," he concluded.
