JAKARTA - A popular Chinese magazine with the name Fat Cat has attracted attention around the world. Fat Cat, a man who loves his lover so much, decided to commit suicide after depression because of his unretaliated feelings.
Fat Cat has the real name Pang Mao, a 21-year-old man who works as a Pro Player Mobile Legend. Fa Cat has a lover named Tan Zhu, a 27-year-old woman.
According to Chinese media reports, Fat Cat met his girlfriend online in 2022, but they only met face-to-face at the end of 2023. Tan Zhu once promised to marry her at the end of 2024. Fat Cat, who loves her lover very much, was willing to move to Chongqing from Hunan two years ago. He earns a living by 'training' other video gamers.

This joke, this joke, this sincere, this victim, but unfortunately everything ran aground because of the hurt of a woman who only used it. RIP fat paint pic.twitter.com/zQcDO5jNPA
In order to make his lover happy, Fat Cat is willing to live a very simple life. Almost all of his income is given to Tan Zhu. He reportedly also transferred 97,300 United States dollars or around Rp. 1.5 billion.
In screenshots spread across the internet, Fat Cat even sent a message to his lover that he wanted to eat dishes from fast food restaurants. Instead of sympathize, Tan Zhu even advised her lover to work harder if he wanted to eat good food.
But his sacrifice was not appreciated by his lover. Tan Zhu chose to have a relationship with another man and broke up with Fat Cat. This fact made Fat Cat very heartbroken. He could not hold back his sadness and despair, until he chose to walk to the bridge in Chongqing and plunge into the cold river water and never return.
This tragedy became the most widely discussed topic on Weibo, China's most popular social media platform, when the news of his suicide broke out late last April. Meanwhile, the police are still investigating the alleged scam by Tan Zhu.
In 2021, a love story that led to suicide was also experienced by a student at Universitas Brawijaya Malang, East Java, with the initials NW (23). He was found dead near his father's tomb in the Japanese Village area, Mojokerto Regency. He allegedly committed suicide after his mother found a liquid type potassium cyanide. NW is suspected of being pregnant and asked to have an abortion by his girlfriend.
In the previous year, RG (18), a vocational school student in Blora was found dead hanging himself in his room in Temanggung Village. Based on the results of police investigations, the student who was in grade II in one of the leading vocational schools in Cepu District is suspected of being desperate to end her life because her love was rejected. The relationship was not approved by the woman's parents.
Then there was also the suicide case of a teenager with the initials EK (20) in his room in Kadu Village, Pete Village, Tigaraksa District, Tangerang Regency. He hanged himself allegedly because his love was rejected by a woman who is also his colleague.
Feelings of neglect by loved ones are said to be one of the causes of a person's depression, as explained by psychologist Tika Bisono. He said the feeling of guilt for pregnancy outside of marriage and the attitude of a partner who is indifferent has an effect on inner pressure, even loss of common sense.
"In a high inner conflict, it can lead to a hysterical situation. He does not have maturity to face it with a calm attitude and think carefully," said Tika.
Seeing the series of cases above, suicide is experienced by many young people or what is now called generation Z, namely those born from 1997 to 2012. Mental health problems experienced by gene Z are indeed becoming the world's attention, including Indonesia, in the past few years.
In 2018 WHO released a statement that suicide was the second highest cause of death in the age range 15-29. Still from the same data, WHO said the suicide ratio in Indonesia in 2019 reached 2.4 per 100,000 population.
Many factors encourage a person to commit suicide, such as poor economic conditions, unsatisfactory physical appearance, dependence on illegal drugs, social problems, and psychological disorders.
However, the President Director of the National Mental Health Center of the Mental Hospital, Dr. H. Marzoeki Mahdi (PKJN RSMM) Dr. dr. Nova Riyanti Yusuf, SpKJ stated, external expectations are one of the triggers for the rise of mental health cases of the younger generation.
When I examined psychosocial stressors (triggers) in DKI Jakarta, they felt that their achievements were not in line with expectations. The problem is whose expectations? Most external dictations, "he said, were confiscated by Antara.
External expectations or social demands build pseudo standards regarding a person's success. Social media also played a major role in the case. Referring to American Psychological Association (APA) data, gen Z is the group of people who are most willing to admit that they have problems with mental health.
Nova added that Gen Z is the most diligent generation in seeking help and caring about mental health and life as a whole, which was not experienced by previous generations.
However, even though it is more open about mental health issues, the number of suicide cases among Gen Z has actually jumped in the last four years. In Jakarta, for example, according to research in 2019 against 910 teenagers aged 14-19 years, stated that 13.8 percent were at risk of suicide in the future. This figure rose to above 50 percent in research in 2023. The second research was conducted on 612 students in Jakarta.
"Ide for suicide is mostly experienced in women, but at the time of execution or actually doing the majority of male gender," Nova explained.
This phenomenon then raises the notion that the younger generation is less resilient, which is caused by changes in parental patterns. On the other hand, changes in the world that are so fast become increasingly confusing and uncertain, become more brutal, and become a bad place so that the younger generation bears the biggest burden.
Citing The Guardian, there are actually a lot of potential causes related to Z's mental health, ranging from the cost of living crisis, lockdown due to COVID-19, climate crisis, pressure at school, to social media and smartphones.
Mental health issues among the younger generation have increased before the pandemic, said Nil Guzelgun, head of policy and campaign in Mind.

We saw a huge increase in 2017. So it's not just because of the pandemic. We know people with mental health are stuck in low-paid and unsafe jobs. After the financial crisis, we see an increase in mental health problems afterward, "added Guzelgun.
Mental health is not something that can be underestimated. If a person feels that he is having problems with mental health, he should meet professional workers such as psychologists to help him overcome these problems.
