Meghan Markle Compares Her Life To A Little Mermaid: Falls In Love With A Prince And Gets Silenced

JAKARTA - Prince Harry's wife, Meghan Markle, told Oprah Winfrey that she attributed her experience as royalty to Princess Ariel in Hans Christian Andersen's classic tale The Little Mermaid.

"I was sitting in the Nottingham cottage and the thought of the Little Mermaid fairy tale came," recalled Meghan as quoted by People on Monday, March 8.

"And being an adult actually watching The Little Mermaid came to my mind that she fell in love with the prince and because of that she lost her voice," added Meghan.

Meghan said this in an exclusive interview with Oprah. The future mother of two added, "But in the end, she got her voice back."

The fairy tale which was later composed by Disney has a version that Princess Ariel, the main character in The Little Mermaid, has a great curiosity and is free-spirited. Ariel bravely follows her dream and embarks on a life-changing adventure to find what she truly values.

Ariel explores the human world and falls in love with Prince Eric. In order to fulfill her dream as a human, Ariel makes a bargain with the evil sea witch Ursula and trades her beautiful voice.

Also in Oprah's interview, Meghan was asked if she was "silent or silenced" in the early period of her royal life with Harry.

"I've always valued freedom. I've always been outspoken, especially about women's rights, and that's a sad irony over the last four years, I've been advocating women to use their voices for so long. And then I'm silent," said Meghan.

But before giving the explanation, Meghan told Oprah that her right to voice has been silenced.

And elsewhere in the interview, Meghan talks about the sacrifices she made to be with Harry and debunked tabloid rumors that she was the culprit of the "Megxit" decision.

"Can you imagine how small that feeling. I left my career, my life, I left everything because I love my husband," said Meghan told Oprah.

Towards the end of the interview, Oprah asked Meghan if her story with Prince Harry had a happy ending.

"I am. Better than any fairy tale you have ever read," Meghan replied.

Apart from talking about their decision to leave royal duties and leave senior members of the kingdom, Meghan and Harry revealed the gender of their second child Meghan is currently carrying.

"To have a son and then a girl - what else could you ask for?" Said Harry.

The couple also said they would not have any more children after the birth of their baby girl.

"Grateful, having a child, one or two would be wonderful, but having a son and then a girl ... now we have a small family of four," said Harry.
