Android 15 Will Come With New Device Diagnostics Feature, To Check Cellphone Storage Health

JAKARTA - Android 15 is likely to be equipped with a new smart feature to check the health of your phone's internal storage, thus warning when the risk of file loss or running out of space that can be used appears at the most needed times.

This feature is named Device Diagnostics, as seen by Android Authority in the latest Android 15 beta version, and provides users with a percentage view of how much internal storage can still be used.

Phones do have considerable internal storage space, some of these spaces are often used by operating systems and built-in applications, and over time, universal flash storage (UFS) used by smartphones, selected because of their speed, compact size, and low power consumption, can be degraded over time.

This happens to all types of storage, which can eventually cause data loss or become non-readable at all, meaning the loss of anything that is not stored in its reserves.

Currently, there is no tool to check the internal storage status of your phone, just as some phones have the tools to assess battery health. So, without warning, your storage could fail, and you could lose valuable data that is not stored in its reserves.

However, Device Diagnostics can provide access to battery health information and storage in one place, making it easier to track components that are prone to degradation over time.

In addition, this feature can also include the ability to test the display function and touch screen of your phone to see if it is still functioning properly. This can help you decide when to transfer your file to another storage option or switch to a newer device.

However, Device Diagnostics is still in the Android 15 beta version, meaning there is no guarantee that this feature will be included in the full releases predicted to come between August and October, with further information likely to be disclosed in the upcoming Google I/O 2024 event on May 14.

In addition, if it is part of the full deployment of Android 15, Device Diagnostics may only be available to Google Pixel devices. This is because not all Android devices share information relevant to the Android operating system. As a result, it may not be able to provide the right storage time information or support it at all.

While not all phones can support Device Diagnostics features, you can still do a few things to prevent the loss of important files and your phone at this time. One of them is backing your important files to other devices or using cloud storage. The second is to maintain performance on your device by deleting unnecessary documents and duplications and deleting applications that are no longer in use or unsupported.

You can also clear caches and data for most apps in your phone settings; however, this may require you to re-enter the app.
