Unique Story Behind The Writing Of The 'Ningrat' Song From Jamrud

Ningrat is the best album from Jamrud released in 2000, with his main single also entitled Ningrat.

The song Ningrat, written by Azis Mangasi Siagian alias Azis MS, became a hit, which tells about the dating style of young people at that time which was deemed no longer in accordance with the style of the times at that time.

However, what makes Ningrat's song more unique is the use of Javanese cultural background. In fact, Azis as a writer is a Batak-blooded musician who was born and raised in Cimahi, West Java.

When he was a guest on Dewa Budjana's YouTube channel, the Jamrud frontman said that his residential environment in Cimahi, which is inhabited by various tribes, was an inspiration for writing Ningrat's song.

"Maybe it's because of the environment too. In the past, I lived next to Javanese, there was Manado, on the left there was also Batak. Behind that, only Sundanese people. Yes, the term is universal," said Azis MS, launching Dewa Budjana's YouTube channel, Wednesday, April 10.

"The Javanese children who talk will definitely use Javanese at home. Yes, I was born there, so it's like I'm familiar (with Javanese culture)," he continued.

When writing the song Ningrat, Azis admitted that he asked many questions with his neighbor who came from Java. Even though he is familiar with several terms in Javanese, he does not want any misunderstandings.

"But at that time I also asked the children (Java) who were younger than me. For fear of being wrong too. Most of them (the lyrics) did ask them," concluded Azis MS.
