27 Citizens Died In Israeli Prisoners, Palestinian Foreign Ministry: This Crime Cannot Be Allowed

JAKARTA - The Palestinian Foreign Ministry condemned the death of 27 nationals in Israeli custody, saying the incident was part of the crimes and destruction committed by Israel.

A report published in the Israeli newspaper on Thursday said the detainees had been killed during detention at Israeli military facilities since last October.

The prisoners lost their lives at the Sde Teiman and Anatot facilities or during interrogation by Israeli investigators, Israel's Haaretz daily said.

No details were provided by the Israeli army about the deaths of detainees, only saying some of them suffered from previous health problems or were injured during the Gaza conflict.

The Israeli army said an investigation had been carried out by the Military Police investigating the death, without providing details.

Meanwhile, some Palestinians released by Israel have testified about the beatings and abuse they experienced during the interrogation.

Images of released prisoners showing bruises and scars on their wrists were handcuffed for a long time, Haaretz said.

Meanwhile, according to a UN agency report for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) published by The New York Times on Tuesday, Palestinian prisoners released to Gaza testified they were beaten, robbed, stripped, sexually assaulted and barred from access to doctors and lawyers.

In response, the Palestinian Foreign Ministry condemned the deaths of their citizens at Israel's detention facility, saying it was a horrific crime.

"This crime is part of the atrocities and war of destruction carried out by the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian people in Gaza," the ministry said in a statement.

In addition, the ministry calls on the international community to intervene "to protect the Palestinian people from systematic and widespread occupational crimes, particularly in Gaza."

"Israel's occupation crimes should not be left alone, and justice must be upheld for Palestinian victims," the ministry said.

Separately, the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza on Friday announced that the number of Palestinians in the region who have died from Israeli attacks since October 7 had reached 30,878 people, mostly women and children, while 72,402 others were injured.

"Many people are still trapped under the rubble and on the road because rescue teams cannot reach them," the ministry said in a statement, quoted by Anadolu.

"72 percent of victims of Israeli aggression in Gaza are children and women," the ministry added.
