Children Have A Difficulty In Eating, Try Food Art, Mom?

JAKARTA - Have you ever imagined if potatoes could be shaped into monkeys? A cake with the design of Tintin and his dog Snowy. Or even sushi that was shaped like a toucan? It was these character forms that eventually started the Food Art trend.

Lately, Food Trends are becoming a trend among parents. Through Instagram, parents from all over the world share photos of their creativity in preparing food. So, not only delicious on the tongue but also pleasing to the eye.

An example can be seen in the @oi_happi_days account upload on Instagram. This account, which belongs to a mother who lives in Singapore, often shares plates filled with food that has been decorated to make it prettier.

Quoting Mashable, Carolina K, the owner of the account, started making food art since the Singapore government established the Circuit Breaker period in 2020.

Initially, Carolina only used simple food ingredients. Like fruit, bread, and jam. Now, Carolina's food creations are growing. Both in terms of shape and food ingredients used. Not infrequently, Carolina also uploads food that has been formed based on the child's favorite cartoon character.

“Covid-19 brings a new routine to our daily activities. More time (emoji house with garden) = more time for family (emoji Family, Man, Woman, Boy). However, to avoid fatigue due to boredom (both for children and parents), as well as excessive screen time. The child asks for a special menu. He asked for a 'special themed lunch; after yesterday asking for a 'prehistoric special dinner'," wrote Carolina in her upload caption on Instagram last year.

Another food art is created by a Belgian mother named Jolanda Stokkermans. Through the @demealprepper account, Jolanda shares artwork made from food ingredients that she has made.

Not only that, but Jolanda also held workshops and made plating services a side job. It is not surprising if you see Jolanda's work, which is often uploaded through her Instagram page and personal website, demealprepper.be.

Various food ingredients such as rice, pasta, berries, even tortilla snack wrappers, can be styled until they look slick. Jolanda also designed every meal that was served not only visually beautiful but also fulfilled the nutrition needed by children.

Jolanda and Carolina are just two examples of housewives who are engaged in food art. It was from them that the art of arranging food became a trend and was followed by mothers from all over the world.

Not infrequently, many parents admit that arranging food so that it is visually beautiful can increase the child's appetite. So, children who previously tended to have difficulty in eating, they are more eager to finish each menu that has been prepared.
