President Putin Promises To Increase The Ability To Attack Russian Special Forces, Prepare New Generation Weapons

JAKARTA - President Vladimir Putin vowed to increase the mobility and potential attacks of Russian special operations forces, saying it was a top priority to make the country's army stronger.

"We will continue to strengthen the Special Operations Forces, increase their mobility and potential attacks, and arm them with new generation weapons and equipment," President Putin said in a congratulatory video message issued on Russian Special Operations Forces Day.

"Let me emphasize, this is one of the main priorities for long-term development of the army and sea," he continued.

Russian Special Operations Forces are strategic-level constant combat forces designed to carry out certain tasks, part of the Russian Armed Forces.

The special forces have been involved in Russia's covert actions in Syria in the last decade and since 2022 in the Moscow invasion of Ukraine, which Putin calls a "special military operation". Kyiv and his allies see it as an unwarranted confiscation of imperialist land.

"Special thanks to the soldiers who have participated in special military operations," President Putin said in a video uploaded to the Kremlin Telegram account.

"In the most dangerous areas, on the front lines, far behind enemy lines, in attacks and fast attacks, you carry out tasks that are given with respect, act with courage, competence, and firmness," he praised.

Russia celebrated Special Operations Forces Day on February 27 since 2015, when President Putin declared the day a holiday on the first anniversary of Russian troops seizing government buildings in Crimea, Ukraine, which was followed by Moscow's annexation of the peninsula, according to Russian RBC news.

"The Special Operation Forces Unit has proven in practice that they are ready, from the start, to defend the country and protect Russia's national interests anywhere in the world. High quality and special training always distinguish the soldiers and commanders of the Special Operation Forces," President Putin praised, quoted from TASS.
