78 Employees Entangled In Extortion Cases In Detention Center Apologize: I Abused Positions And Authority
JAKARTA - A total of 78 employees of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) apologized for their involvement in the case of illegal levies (extortion) detention centers. This application is a sanction from the KPK Supervisory Board which must be carried out in front of the leadership to the Secretary General of the KPK.
"I hereby submit an apology to the Corruption Eradication Commission and/or KPK personnel for violating the code of ethics and code of conduct that I have carried out," said one employee representative who was decided to violate ethics at the KPK Supporting building, Monday, February 26.
"In the form of abuse of office and/or authority, including abusing the influence as a member of the commission, both in carrying out duties and personal interests and/or groups," he continued.
The Secretary General of the KPK Cahya H. Harefa and Deputy Chairperson of the KPK Alexander Marwata attended this activity with the KPK Council and structural ranks.
Cahya in this activity advised that this kind of incident should no longer happen. Employees must be able to carry out their duties according to the values that must be held.
"I, as a KPK member, feel concerned and saddened because as a member of the KPK, I was sentenced to ethics as a result of actions that deviate from the values of the KPK, namely integrity, synergy, justice, professionalism, and leadership," said Cahya.

As previously reported, 90 employees were declared to have violated ethics. Of that number, 78 employees were sanctioned in the form of publicly apologizing.
While the other 12 were handed over to the KPK Inspectorate because they participated in extortion practices before the KPK Supervisory Board was formed. In this case, the anti-corruption commission has also investigated it criminally.
The Deputy for Enforcement and Execution of the KPK is currently investigating this case. A total of more than 10 suspects have been named in the alleged extortion.
