Liverpool Have Contacted Xabi Alonso To Replace Jurgen Klopp

JAKARTA - Bayer Leverkusen coach, Xabi Alonso, is Liverpool's target to replace Jurgen Klopp who resigned after the end of the competition. Liverpool have also taken steps forward by contacting Alonso.

Liverpool has set Alonso as the main target. The club has not officially announced it wants to recruit this former Reds player.

However, on the liverpool.com page, the choice of the Premier League giant has indeed narrowed to two candidates, Alonso and Ruben Amorim.

Amoritism is a Portuguese coach who now accounts for Sporting CP. He is indeed less popular despite his success as a player and coach in Portugal.

He has been said to be handling one of the Premier League clubs. Liverpool have included him as a candidate to replace Klopp.

According to television journalist Dell Sport, Gianluigi Longari, Alonso is at the top of the list as the German manager.

"Liverpool has conducted an evaluation. Of the many candidates who entered, the first list was Xabi Alonso," Longari wrote on the X (Twitter) account.

The media has also received information that there has been talks between Liverpool and Alonso. The club has contacted the former.

Liverpool are still conducting an initial assessment by confirming the possibility of him returning to Anfield to deal with The Kop.

However, Alonso has not given certainty. The talks between them have yet to come to the conclusion whether Alonso is willing to handle Liverpool or reject it. However, the 42-year-old coach stated that he is currently focusing on Leverkusen.

"If there is speculation, that's normal. I respect what Jurgen has been doing at Liverpool for nine years."

"How he works and has a relationship with fans. He does an extraordinary job. However, my focus is on Bayer Leverkusen," said Alonso.

Leverkusen is also said to have Alonso's contract clause that Liverpool must redeem if they want to recruit him.

However, Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro denied the existence of the clause. He also doubts the club can defend Alonso if Liverpool have contacted him.

"There is no clause whatsoever. We have a very good relationship with Xabi and we know he is very serious with this club," said Carro.

"We want him to be happy here. However, we can't stop if he doesn't want to stay," he said.
