North Sumatra Police Name Padangsidimpuan KPU Members Suspect Of Extortion Of Legislative Candidates

The North Sumatra Police have named a suspect with the initials PH, the commissioner of the Padangsidimpuan City KPU in the alleged extortion case against one of the city's legislative candidates.

"The North Sumatra Police have named PH as a suspect in the alleged extortion of a legislative candidate with the initials D in the city," said Head of Public Relations of the North Sumatra Police, Kombes Hadi Wahyudi in Medan, as reported by ANTARA, Monday, January 29.

Hadi continued that PH was named a suspect by the North Sumatra Police on January 28, 2024, currently carrying out further detention and investigation processes.

"The suspect's modus operandi was initially to ask the victim for Rp50 million for 1,000 votes, but the victim was only able to pay Rp26 million," he said.

Based on information, the suspect PH was arrested at a cafe in Padangsidimpuan City, North Sumatra on Saturday (27/1). Meanwhile, said Hadi, for R, a member of PPK, he is still a witness.

"The evidence that was secured was Rp26 million in cash, some of which had been used when they were arrested at one of the cafes," said Hadi.

For his actions, the suspect was charged with Article 368 KHUP regarding extortion.
