IPW Urges Karawang Police To Immediately Arrest Shamans Who Abuse Elementary School Boys

JAKARTA - The slow handling of cases of sexual violence against children at the Karawang Police, has received the spotlight from the Indonesia Police Watch (IPW).

The report made by victim AA (13) has been made since Wednesday, December 13, 2023. This means that the case has not been running for more than 1 month and the perpetrator has not been arrested.

The chairman of the Indonesia Police Watch (IPW), Sugeng Teguh Santoso, urged the Karawang Police to immediately arrest the perpetrators of sexual violence against minors.

"Investigation of this case must not be prolonged because it will cause disappointment from victims, families and the community," said Sugeng to VOI, Wednesday, January 17.

Moreover, he continued, a number of evidences and witnesses have been given to investigators so that the PPA Unit of the Karawang Police can immediately raise the status to fingerprint.

"It can be fingerprinted because the evidence, report, victim's confession, visum et repertum and also evidence of pants are already there. Must be raised immediately, Sidik. Then determine the suspect," he said.

Sugeng emphasized that the average case of sexual violence against minors has the same pattern, such as the perpetrator who is mostly the closest person to the victim.

"(The perpetrator) has one dominant position, or is in power with the victim in this case is the victim's uncle. Therefore, provide justice for child victims," he said.

AA (13) became a victim of rape by his biological uncle who was suspected of being a fake shaman in Karawang. AA hopes that the Karawang Police will immediately arrest the perpetrator.

"Hopefully the perpetrators will be quickly arrested (police) and punished severely," said victim AA to VOI, Monday, January 15, afternoon.

Currently, the rape case committed by perpetrator AN is still under investigation by the Karawang Police Women and Children Service Unit (PPA). Although the case has been rolling for more than 1 month, the perpetrator has not been arrested.
