Mahfud MD Talks About Improvement Of Law Enforcement From Pucuk: It's Not Difficult, Just Dare Or Not
MEDAN - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) who is also vice presidential candidate Mahfud MD holds a national lecture on legal politics at HKBP University Nommensen, Medan, North Sumatra.
"Today I will purely (give) lectures as an academic. I will focus on healthy democracy. I used to write dissertation about legal politics. People often don't understand the difference between legal politics and legal politicization, it's different," Mahfud said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, January 16.
Mahfud told why he chose legal politics, it was because of his anxiety in everyday life, that political energy was stronger. In fact, he said the law as commander in chief for the welfare of the people.
"I graduated in 1983, at that time the New Order authoritarianism was at the top. Every law is made unilaterally, every time there is a violation of the law when it comes to the interests of officials, protected or sought by one victim. All laws are played so I am disappointed why he says this is a state of law, how come it keeps losing to politics," he said.
Until finally Mahfud studied political science to find out the answer to why the law lost to politics and how to win it.
"It turns out, that's because the law is a political product, assuming the law is color and its enforcement depends on its political configuration," said the former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK).
He said if the politics is democratic, then the law must be responsive. Meanwhile, if the politics is authoritarian, or now called oligarchy, it must be conservative, orthodox.

According to him, if you want the law to become a commander, the politics must be organized so that it is democratic and dignified.
Mahfud emphasized that future law enforcement must be balanced, both high-class, oligarchy, and officials with strict law enforcement. Meanwhile, the lower class must have protection.
"Including improving the legal structure, law enforcement officers, repairing the top. It's not difficult. Just be brave or not. Also the KPK must be independent and strengthened. Just return it to the previous law. Be more thorough and productive," he said.
