Qualifying For The Fourth Round Of The FA Cup, Manchester United Get Rid Of League One Wigan Team
JAKARTA - Manchester United had no trouble overcoming Wigan Athletic's resistance and won 2-0 in the third round of the FA Cup at the DW Stadium, Tuesday, January 9 in the morning WIB. Down the full team, MU eliminated the League One team to advance to the fourth round.
MU became the last elite team from the English Premier League to qualify for the next round of the FA Cup.
However, MU had to come down with full strength against Wigan, who is currently competing in England's third division.
Even in the caste, Wigan is still struggling at the bottom of the board. By ranking 18, Wigan is closer to the relegation zone than being in the middle of League One.
Despite facing a team from the bottom, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag still fielded the best squad. Even goalkeeper Andre Onana delayed his departure to Ivory Coast to strengthen Cameroon's national team in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The results did not miss predictions. MU had no trouble over Wigan. However, this match became a record for MU strikers Rasmus Hojund and Marcus Rashford who never scored.
Hojlund has only scored once in the Premier League since being recruited from Atalanta earlier this season. The first goal of the Danish national team striker was created after he played no less than 1000 minutes at MU.
Likewise Rashford, who is still struggling to show his sharpness. The performance of this England forward is far below the previous season when he routinely broke into the opponent's goal.
In that match, the Red Devils completely dominated. They didn't stop attacking and force Wigan to defend more.
Despite getting many chances, none of them can be converted into goals. MU's deadlock was finally resolved through the goal of defender Diogo Dalot in the 22nd minute.
The goal came from Alejandro Garnacho's cross which Hojlund failed to greet. But the ball was later received by Rashford who then provided Dalot with an assist.
This opportunity was maximized by the Portugal national team defender to break into The Latics' goal.
After that goal, MU continued to press the opponent. However, Ten Hag's troops were unable to increase their advantage. Moreover, the host goalkeeper Sam Ticket played brilliantly and made several saves. The 1-0 score for MU lasted until the end of the first half.

In the second half, MU continued to attack. Only their attacks still have not paid off. MU had to wait for additional goals in the second half of the second half.
In the 74th minute, MU was awarded a penalty following the arrest of captain Bruno Fernandes by midfielder Liam Shaw in the box.
The referee immediately pointed to the spot. Fernandes finished the penalty execution. The score changed to 2-0 and lasted until the end of the match.
MU also advanced to the next round and again met with minor opponents. MU met Newport County from League Two (division four) or Eastleigh FC who competed in the fifth caste.
