Paid Fines, Google And Meta Free From Russian Court Debt List

The fines imposed by Russian courts on Google and YouTube, Meta, TikTok, and Telegram appear to have been finalized as they are no longer listed as debtors in the state bailiff officer database.

However, the database accessed by Reuters on Wednesday January 3 still lists X (previously Twitter) and Twitch, with a total fine of 51 million rubles (IDR 8.7 billion) and 23 million rubles (IDR 3.9), respectively.

Russia has clashed with foreign technology companies over content it deems unlawful and a failure to store user data locally, in an increasingly heated dispute after Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022.

After the invasion, Meta's Twitter and platforms, Facebook and Instagram, were blocked, and Google's YouTube became a particular target of Russian government anger.

By the end of 2023, Russian courts imposed a fine on Google of 4.6 billion rubles (Rp783.8 billion), calculated as proportion of its annual revenue in Russia. Meta, which is labeled as "extremist" in 2022, has also been fined proportional to its revenue in Russia.
