Record, Princess Diana's Late Night Dress Sold For IDR 16.9 Billion
JAKARTA - A night dress worn by the late Princess Diana sold for $1.1 million or 11 times the price for one of her dresses under the hammer, Los Angeles-based Julien's Auctions said., United States.
Princess Diana first wore a black and blue ballerina long-night dress designed by Jacques Azagury in Florence in 1985. A year later, she was also photographed in the same shirt on her visit to Vancouver, the auction house said.
The dress, along with a harmonious illustration, sold for 1,148,080 US dollars in this month's mid-auction, having previously been expected to sell for 100,000 US dollars - 200,000 US dollars.
"Julien now holds a new world record for the most expensive outfits worn by Princess Diana for auction," he said in a statement, adding the previous auction record was USD 604.800.
The dress consists of a long black cyclone embroidered with blue stars and a two-tier blue organza skirt decorated with tape and ribbons.
It was sold as part of a four-day "Hollywood Legends" sale by Julien's Auctions and Turner Classic Movies (TCM), featuring various memorabilia.
