Adaro Wins The Sixth Gold PROPER

JAKARTA - PT Adaro Indonesia (Adaro), a subsidiary of PT Adaro Energy Indonesia Tbk, has won its sixth gold PROPER in the Corporate Performance Rating Assessment Program (PROPER) from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK). The award was handed over in Jakarta, Wednesday, December 20 by the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) KH Ma'ruf Amin accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia Alue Dohong to Priyadi as President Director of Adaro.

This Gold PROPER award, which was won by Adaro in 2012 and then every year from 2019 to 2023, shows Adaro's commitment to implementing a balance of economic aspects with the environment, social, and governance (ESG) in its operations.

President Director of PT Adaro Energy Indonesia Tbk Mr. Garibaldi Thohir said that his party was proud that Adaro had won the Gold PROPER Award for the sixth time.

In order to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) we always try to do more than required (beyond compliance) through several initiatives aimed at realizing excellence in the field of operation, safety and work health, environmental protection and social innovation," he said, in a written statement, Tuesday, December 26.

Indonesian Vice President KH Ma'ruf Amin congratulated companies that have consistently shown environmental excellence in the production and service process, as well as carrying out ethical and responsible businesses for society. KH. Ma'ruf Amin said that PROPER is a platform for companies to take part in sustainable development.

"From year to year, the criteria for assessing PROPERs are increasingly complex by carrying out continuous improvement criteria such as life cycle assessments, social innovations, and calculations of the impact of their implementation," explained the Vice President.

PROPER is an event held to reward the business world for its performance in environmental management, econovation, social innovation and green leadership. In the 2023 PROPER event, as many as 79 companies received gold rankings, 196 green-ranked companies, 2,131 blue-ranked companies, and 1,077 red-ranked companies.

The Gold PROPER is the highest ranking delegated to companies that have proven to manage the environment with more compliance standards than required and make sustainable community development efforts.

Some of the flagship programs implemented by Adaro in 2023 are energy efficiency, emission reduction, and water efficiency. As of June 2023, Adaro has succeeded in reducing energy consumption by 1,143,399 joules, reducing emissions by 126,915 tons of CO2 equivalence, and water efficiency by 803,646 m3.

Adaro is committed to making efforts to improve a sustainable environment, especially related to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions which have the potential to produce energy efficiency, fuel cost savings, and reducing GRK emissions in the coal transportation process.

One of Adaro's social innovation programs is the Taman Wisata Waiting for Laburan Program, which is part of Adaro's contribution to support efforts to improve Indonesia's Human Development Index (HDI). Located in Padang Panjang Village, Tabalong Regency, Taman Wisata Waiting for Laburan provides family recreational facilities, environmental education and sports by carrying the concept of Eco Sport Education.

By being social entrepreneurship-based, through this program the company creates jobs for the people of Padang Panjang, improves the welfare of the community, and accompanies them to be empowered in order to achieve independence. This program is one of Adaro's post-mining programs that integrates environmental aspects and development of people based on biodiversity through various activities, such as enrichment of vegetation by planting 484 trees consisting of 53 types of rare trees / endangered rare/plants.

This activity has increased its biodiversity index to reach a value of H' > 3 or a high category and contributed to carbon stock of 479,405 tons and absorption of equivalence CO2 emissions of 1,759.42 tons.

Adaro has also succeeded in utilizing water from the post-Paringin lake for freshwater fisheries by breeding several types of fish, namely Nila BEST, Papuyu, Belinda Jelawat, Sepat Siam, Gabus, Gurami, Patin) which will be used as a source of people's economic income in the post-mining period.

In addition to the activities above, Adaro also carries out various other environmental and community programs in order to improve the living standards of the surrounding community. One of the achievements to be proud of is the acceleration of stunting reduction in three districts of the Adaro operation area in 2023, which will be continued and expanded to cover six districts by 2024 with a target to reduce the stunting rate to below 14 percent.
