KPK Calls Determination Of Suspect Wamenkumham Eddy Hiariej Not Individual Decision

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Alexander Marwata confirmed that the determination of the suspect had gone through a number of series. There was no personal sentiment, including when announcing the former Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights (Wamenkumham) Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej or Eddy Hiariej.

This statement was conveyed in response to accusations by Eddy's camp in the inaugural pretrial hearing on Monday, December 18. He said that the determination of the suspect would certainly begin with a case title.

"Determination of a person as a suspect at the KPK has gone through a case title attended by investigators, investigators, public prosecutors and leadership elements," Alexander told reporters quoted on Tuesday, December 19.

"So it's not a personal decision," he continued.

The Eddy Hiariej camp accused Alexander of his statement regarding the determination of the suspect as spreading false news. This is because an investigation warrant (sprindik) against three suspects was only issued on November 24 and a warrant for the start of the investigation (SPDP) was issued on November 27.

However, Alexander as Deputy Chair of the KPK had already declared Eddy a suspect on November 9. So, there are allegations that he led an opinion about the legal status of the former deputy minister.

"I don't know what purpose or reason and take advantage of the other respondent commissioners so that later in the end applicant I along with applicant II and Petitioner III really had to be officially accused by the Respondent on November 24, 2023," said Eddy's attorney at trial.

Previously reported, the KPK officially announced Eddy Hiariej as a suspect. He is suspected of receiving up to IDR 8 billion which was divided several times for a number of purposes involving the boss of PT CLM, Helmut Hermawan.

Eddy's first acceptance was made after he agreed to consult the general legal administration of the PT CLM ownership dispute. At that time Helmut gave Rp4 billion.

Then, he also received Rp3 billion to stop the legal process involving Helmut at the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit through the issuance of a letter of termination of investigation (SP3).

Finally, Eddy allegedly used his power as Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights to unblock PT CLM in the Ministry of Law and Human Rights' Legal Administration System (SABH). At that time, he received Rp1 billion which was then used to nominate himself as Chairman of the Central Management of the Indonesian Tennis Association (PP Pelti).

Eddy made this acceptance through two people as his representative. They are lawyers named Yosi Andika Mulyadi and Yogi Arie Rukmana who are his personal assistants.
