Meta Will Present a Fact Checking Program in Threads

JAKARTA – Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri announced that his party is creating a fact-checking program on Threads. The plan is that this program will be launched next year.

With this program, Threads wants to reduce the spread of disinformation content. Although the description of this program has not been explained in more detail, it seems that this program will collaborate with third parties.

“We currently match fact-checking ratings from Facebook or Instagram with Threads, but our goal is for fact-checking partners to have the ability to review and rate disinformation in the app,” Mosseri said via the Threads account.

Meanwhile, Meta said that the fact-checking program is only available on Instagram and Facebook. This feature is useful enough on those two platforms that they plan to expand it to Threads.

In addition to bringing a fact-checking program specifically to Threads, Meta is also creating new controls for users. With these controls, users can decide whether the content they find is sensitive or inappropriate to upload.

“People in the US (have) the ability to choose whether they want to upgrade, downgrade, or maintain the default demotion level on fact-checked content in their Feed,” Meta explained.

Unfortunately, this capability will only be available in the United States (US). Meta didn't say when these controls would be launched, but expanding the controls will likely take longer as the control features on Facebook and Instagram are only available in the US.
