Real Madrid's Perfect Record In The Champions League, Union Berlin Becomes The Last Victim
JAKARTA - Real Madrid fell behind and got up to beat Union Berlin 3-2 in the Group C match at the Olympia Stadium, Wednesday, December 13 in the morning WIB. Madrid also set a perfect record for winning all matches.
Union Berlin became Madrid's last victim. The defeat made Union fail to qualify for the Europa League for occupying the bottom of the standings after pocketing two points.
Two points adrift of Braga who also lost 2-0 to Napoli. Braga who got a ticket to the Europa League was ranked third.
Meanwhile, Madrid always win matches so that they close the preliminary round by getting 18 points. This repeats Los Blancos' achievements in the 2011/2012 and 2014/2015 seasons.
Interestingly in those two editions, Madrid always failed in the semifinals. In 2012, Madrid lost against Barcelona in the top four. Furthermore, Barca, which still has Lionel Messi, beat Juventus 3-1 in the final.
Meanwhile, in 2014/2015, Madrid only lasted until the semifinals before being defeated by Bayern Munich. But in the final, Bayern were defeated by Chelsea on penalties.
In the match against Union, Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti still respects the opponents and Champions League competition by lowering the best squad.
Only striker Vinicius Junior was absent because he was still injured. His position was replaced by Joselu who had a duet with Rodrygo. They have the support of Jude Bellingham and Dani Ceballos.
For the goalkeeper's position, Ancelotti fielded Kepa Arrizabalaga in the match. Kepa itself is the third goalkeeper.
So far, second goalkeeper Andriy Lunin has replaced Thibaut Courtois. However, the Belgian national team goalkeeper had a knee injury and had to be sidelined for a long time.
Appearing with the best squad does not mean Madrid is easy to overcome their opponents. Madrid should have taken the lead when they got the penalty before the end of the first half.
However, Luka Modric's penalty failed because he was blocked by goalkeeper Frederik Ronnow. Not long ago or when the match entered injury time, Union managed to excel through Kevin Volland.
Goals came after he successfully passed defender Lucas Vazquez's obstacles to beat Kepa goalkeeper. Score 1-0 to Union when the first half was over.
Entering the second half, Madrid stepped up the attack. As a result, Joselu broke into Union's goal in the 61st minute. He finished a cross from Rodrygo which equalized the score.
Furthermore, Joselu scored a brace that made Madrid lead 2-1 in the 72nd minute. This time, Joselu completed a pass from Fran Garcia.

Union continued to fight even though they were left behind. Their efforts finally gave results when Alex Kral broke into Kepa's goal in the 85th minute.
The goal changed the score to 2-2 and opened the Union's hopes of qualifying for the Europa League.
But the hope of the German Bundesliga club is dashed. Because of this, Ceballos managed to score a goal for Madrid which changed the score to 3-2 in the 89th minute.
This last minute goal was also the last so Madrid closed the match with their sixth win in the preliminary.
