It Is Inappropriate For The Deputy Minister Of Law And Human Rights To Be Treated As A Corruption Suspect, Eddy Hiariej Asked To Resign

JAKARTA - Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) urges Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej or Eddy Hiariej to resign from the position of Deputy Minister of Law and Law (Wamenkumham). It is inappropriate for him to serve after being named a suspect in alleged bribery and gratification.

"Brother Eddy OS Hiariej immediately resigned as Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights. This is because he has assumed the status of a suspect in the alleged corruption crime in the form of bribery or gratification as submitted by the KPK some time ago," said ICW researcher Kurnia Ramadhana to reporters quoted on Wednesday, December 6.

Kurnia said Eddy could focus on his status. "After all, ethically it is inappropriate for a position at the Wamenkumham level with a fairly large authority to be filled by a suspect in alleged corruption," he said.

"If this is not done, we encourage President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to dismiss the person concerned," continued Kurnia.

Previously reported, the KPK had examined Eddy Hiariej on Monday, December 4 as a witness for other suspects. He was examined for seven hours by the anti-corruption commission investigators but he did not convey anything.

In this case, Eddy has been named a suspect along with three other people. He is suspected of receiving gratuities and bribes.

The KPK revealed that the form of gratification was allegedly in the form of receiving a sum of money related to the consultation and assistance for the ratification of a company's legal entity. The determination of the suspect based on an investigation warrant (sprindik) has been signed since two weeks ago.

The anti-corruption commission has also sent a letter to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) regarding the determination of Eddy Hiariej as a suspect. The letter was received by the Ministry of State Secretariat (Setneg) on Friday, December 1.

To investigate this case, the KPK has also asked the Directorate General of Immigration of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights to prevent four people from leaving the country. Apart from Eddy, those prevented were Yosi Andika Mulyadi and Yogi Arie Rukmana who were his personal assistants. Meanwhile, one private party is the President Director of PT Citra Lampia Mandiri Helmut Hermawan.
