Even Though It Has Entered The Campaign Season, Puan Asks The DPR To Continue To Carry Out Its Functions
JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, asked members of the Council to continue to carry out the duties and functions of the DPR even though they are currently in a moment with high political dynamics ahead of the 2024 General Election.
"Although we are entering the stage of holding the 2024 General Election, which is a political year, where all political parties participating in the 2024 General Election will make various preparations and efforts to get the people's votes," said Puan when closing the session of the council at the DPR Plenary Meeting at Nusantara II Building, Tuesday, December 4.
"We can still complete various supervisory functions, budget functions and legislative functions in order to carry out their constitutional duties," he added.
Puan realizes that as a member of a political party, members of the DPR have an interest in preparing for the 'fight' for the 2024 General Election, both in the Legislative and Presidential Elections. Even so, she reminded the council to continue to carry out its duties and functions as members of the DPR according to the mandate of the constitution and the mandate of the people. "The election is an effort to perfect the implementation of a democratic state," said Puan.
"Being the hope of all of us, even though we are in a political year, we can still manage the duties and constitutional functions of the DPR RI going well to realize the people's mandate, enliven the people, and maintain the interests of the nation and state," he continued.
Puan hopes that all members of the DPR will continue to work with responsibility, as well as be role models to uphold unity and integrity in the midst of the increasingly heated political dynamics of the 2024 General Election.
"In managing these political dynamics, we not only focus on gaining power, but also our shared responsibility to maintain the life of the nation and state in unity and integrity, maintain human values, and further advance the democratic civilization in Indonesia," said Puan.
Regarding the implementation of the legislative function during this trial, the DPR together with the Government have succeeded in completing 2 Draft Laws (RUU) into Laws and 10 Bills are currently in Discussion on Level I Discussions.
Puan said, one of the very strategic bills is the revision or second amendment to the ITE Law. The bill has just been passed as a law. "The dynamics of the digital world that continues to develop encourages the DPR and the Government to regulate child protection in the digital space," explained Puan.
The former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture added that the revision of the ITE Law also regulates improvements to articles that threaten freedom of opinion and articles that are considered multiple interpretations. According to Puan, this is in accordance with the legal developments and needs of the Community. "The amendment to the ITE Law is expected to provide a more comprehensive legal basis in order to protect users of electronic systems," he said.
