Political Year, BI Urges The Public To Beware Of Counterfeit Money Circulation
The Bank Indonesia (BI) Representative of South Sulawesi asked all parties to be aware of the circulation of counterfeit money in the political year, especially during the 2024 election campaign period. "Towards the 2024 simultaneous elections, especially during the campaign period, it is very important to be aware of the circulation of counterfeit money," said Deputy Head of the BI Representative Office of South Sulawesi Province Rudy Bambang Wijanarko, quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, December 3. He advised the public to use digital money to avoid misuse of counterfeit money. Rudi also said that his party would be increasingly keen to socialize the program "Bangga, Cinta and Paham Rupiah" so that the public could find out the forms of counterfeit money and how to avoid it. "So, at that socialization we teach residents in South Sulawesi how to distinguish counterfeit money and real money," he explained.

Throughout 2023, BI South Sulawesi found 2000 counterfeit notes which were dominated by large denominations of Rp50,000 and Rp100,000. Although the trend has decreased compared to the previous year, we still have to be vigilant. "We still increase awareness from the public for consumer protection. Residents must also always check their money every time they make transactions," he said.
