Two Prisoners In Serang Prison Died After Drinking Coca Cola Mixed With Hand Sanitizer

SERANG - Two drug convicts with the initials BY and BP at the Class II A Penitentiary Serang were declared dead, after drinking soda mixed with hand sanitizer whose alcohol reached 70 percent.

Kalapas II A Serang Fajar Nur Cahyo confirmed the information. The victim died in hospital on Monday afternoon, November 27.

"There were 2 of our inmates who died in the hospital on Monday. At eleven in the afternoon and the other at two in the afternoon," Fajar told reporters, Friday, December 1.

Fajar explained that the incident began when one of the inmates secretly asked for a hand sanitizer from a capacity in the Polyclinic of the Class II A Serang Prison.

Then hand sanitizer or liquid cleaning germs are mixed with Coca Cola soda drinks. Next, they were drunk together with dozens of inmates in the prison.

"So it caused pain, so there were approximately 7 who complained of illness. However, 2 died, the first 5 days all of them improved. Then about 8 people got better and were in prison," he said.

Currently, the two prisoners have been brought by the family to be buried immediately. They claimed to have been sincere and did not proceed to the legal process.

"And we also contacted his families who died. They accepted it sincerely. We also share our condolences for the deaths of the two inmates," he concluded.
