More Than Half Of Companies In Asia Pacific Plan To Outsource Cyber Security

JAKARTA - Kaspersky's latest study shows that more than three-quarters (77 percent) of companies in Asia Pacific (APAC) have experienced at least one cyber incident in the last two years.

Then, some say the main reason for cyber incidents in their companies is the lack of adequate equipment to detect threats (20 percent) and the lack of internal IT security staff (24 percent).

"Business in Asia Pacific has struggled with the shortage of local cybersecurity professionals over the years. In fact, by 2022, it was reported that the region needed more than 2.1 million security staff to meet these needs," Adrian Hia, Managing Director of Asia Pacific at Kaspersky in a statement received.

To that end, this study provides an exact figure on how this gap could adversely affect the company's security. Where 32 percent of respondents said they wanted to see more external specialists involved.

Kaspersky found that a quarter of organizations (34 percent) plan to invest in third-party professional services, and as many as 34 percent of other respondents plan to outsource their cybersecurity to MSP/MSSP (Managed Service Providers/Managed Safety Service Providers).

The industries that are most likely to invest in third-party services in the near future are critical infrastructure companies, energy, and oil and gas.

In the next 12 months, more than half of businesses here (51 percent) have concrete plans to implement software that automatically manages their cybersecurity, while the other 15 percent are considering this.
