Reminding Finland that Deployment of Troops to the Border Could Trigger Tensions, Kremlin: Unreasonable and Unfounded

JAKARTA - Finland's activities to strengthen its borders with Russia are unfounded, because Moscow does not pose a threat to its neighboring country, said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Wednesday.

"There is no conflict as such. No one or anything threatens Finland and in this case it is of course a very excessive measure in ensuring border security, because there is no threat there and in fact, there is no tension," said the secretary Kremlin press to journalists, commenting on Finland's activities to increase the protection of its borders with Polish assistance, reported by TASS, November 30.

"This is an unprovoked and unfounded concentration of armed units on the border with Russia," Peskov stressed.

The Russian Presidential Spokesperson further warned, on the contrary, that such activities pose a threat to Russia and could lead to tensions.

"The Finnish side must be aware that for us, this will pose a threat of increasing the number of military units on our borders," explained the Kremlin spokesman.

"This is what we saw," stressed Peskov.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said on Wednesday that Russia received a message from Finland on November 29 regarding its decision to close the last operational border checkpoint from November 30. Meanwhile, several media outlets reported that Poland plans to send troops to Finland to help protect its borders.

Separately, the head of Poland's National Security Bureau, Jacek Siewiera, said in a post on social media Finnish border".

"A team of military advisors will provide on-the-ground knowledge regarding border security, as well as operational matters," he said, quoted by Reuters.

Meanwhile, the Finnish Border Guard and Interior Ministry said they were not aware of any plans to bring Polish military advisers to Finland's eastern border.
