Gempa Magnituto 6 Guncang Jepang, Tak Berpotensi Tsunami

JAKARTA - An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 rocked a number of islands in Okinawa Prefecture, southern Japan.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, this earthquake has no potential for a tsunami.

The earthquake occurred at around 19:42 pm local time, with an earthquake intensity level of 4 on a 7th scale in several parts of Miyako Island, the weather agency said.

As reported by ANTARA, there have been no direct reports of casualties or damage caused by the earthquake, local authorities said.

The 40 km deep earthquake was also felt on several nearby islands, such as Tarama and Ishigaki.

Just before the earthquake, the J-Alert system belonging to the Disaster Management and Fire Agency issued a warning that strong earthquakes with an intensity of less than 5 were likely to occur in the region.

The J-Alert system issued warnings for areas that have the potential to face natural disasters and other emergency situations, such as earthquakes with a seismic intensity level of 4 or more.
