Attending India's P20 Session, Puan Encourages The G20 Parliament To Maintain Conduciveness And Suppress Geopolitical Tensions
JAKARTA - DPR Speaker Puan Maharani attended the 9th P20 in India. At the parliamentary session of the G20 countries, Puan encouraged the importance of global intervention to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).In India's 9th P20 session, the theme was 'Parliaments for One Earth, One Family, One Future'.Indian Prime Minister Narendra Damodardas Modi opened the event which was held at the Yashobhoomi Convention Center, New Delhi, India, Friday, October 13.In the first session with the theme ‘ Agenda 2030 for SDGs: Showing Achievement, Acceleration of Progress ’, Puan Maharani became the first chairman of the G20 parliament to give a speech.Puan emphasized the importance of global peace and increasing cooperation between countries. Parliament is asked to be involved in creating a conducive environment and reducing geopolitical tensions.Puan, who is the 8th President of the P20, also talked about the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). According to him, a joint effort is needed to work together to find a way out of various global problems in order to create sustainable development goals.“ The achievement of SDGs requires a conducive environment. Because there is no development without peace, and there is no peace without development, ” said Puan in a written statement, Friday, October 13.
Furthermore, Puan said, “ The achievement of SDGs has so far been influenced by unprecedented challenges in areas such as war, increasing geopolitical tensions, climate change, and uneven recovery. Everything is interrelated and demands an immediate solution.”Puan advised the G20 parliament to unite in facing global challenges and advancing peace and achieving SDGs for a more inclusive, prosperous and equal world.On this occasion, Puan was also present at the 9th P20 of India, including the Chairman of BKSAP Fadli Zon, and a number of members of the DPR.
