Anies Reminds The Importance Of Migrant Worker Protection

JAKARTA - The presidential candidate from the Coalition for Change Anies Baswedan reminded the importance of Indonesia to always provide protection for migrant workers who are abroad.

The first constitutional order is to protect every Indonesian blood spill. That means, both in Indonesian territory and outside Indonesian territory," Anies said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, October 11.

"And all mothers that the problems faced by our citizens outside Indonesia are humanitarian issues, this is the responsibility of the government," he said.

Anies said that if he was elected President in 2024, he would improve what the government had done, correct what had not been done well, and stop what was wrong.

He said the calm and protection of migrant workers had become an effort of himself together with the volunteers.

"Help us tell you what we have to do, what we haven't done now, so that those who are far from the country (stay) get peace, protection so they can live well, work well," he said.

Anies also said that Indonesia must open up wider job opportunities so that migrant workers can return to the country and anyone can get a decent job.

"When (migrant workers) are asked, they want to go home," he said.

According to him, as an effort to create the widest possible job opportunities, justice must also be present in Indonesia.

That's why we carry the theme of justice. This theme is important because Indonesia, which is progressing today, is cumulatively advanced, but inequality is huge. Jakarta is already on par with other big cities in the world, but the area (others in Indonesia) with Jakarta is still very far away," he said.

Therefore, Anies said that he would change this in the future by creating more and more growth centers throughout Indonesia.

"This is what we are correcting. We want more growth centers throughout Indonesia. This means more employment, wider employment opportunities," he said.

Thus, he continued, migrant workers in the future can return and work in the country, and meet their relatives as they aspire to so far.

"Hopefully, you can return to Indonesia gradually," said Anies.
