Despite Being Far Behind, Threads Can Pursue The Number Of Users Of Platform X
JAKARTA - Threads managed to reach 100 million registrants when it was first launched in July. However, the number of users decreased drastically and significantly in the following weeks.
This decline in user numbers means the Threads platform is struggling to retain its users while attracting new users. Even from Insider Intelligence data, Threads users are still far behind its rival platform X, formerly Twitter.
Insider Intelligence notes that Threads users in the United States (US) will reach 23.7 million by the end of 2023. When compared with Elon Musk's platform, X is estimated to have 56.1 million active users in the US by the end of 2023.
Apart from still being inferior to X, Threads is also far behind other platforms under Meta. Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok are predicted to have 177.9 million, 135.2 million, and 102.3 million respectively in the US by the end of 2023.
Even though Threads is predicted to be far behind, Insider Intelligence estimates that this figure will change drastically in 2025. X users are predicted to fall to 47 million and Threads to increase to 30 million.

With these improvements, Threads can greatly benefit from various issues occurring on Twitter. However, Lead Analyst Insider Intelligence, quoted by The Verge, said, “They (Threads) can't rely on defector X to continue growing.”
One of the problems with X that was highlighted was the plan to charge all users, not just X Premium users. This cost burden makes users switch to other platforms such as Threads.
So far, Threads CEO Adam Mosseri continues to provide the most requested features by users such as search features, feeds, quotes, and various other features. These continually improving features add value to the Threads platform.
