Immigration Holds Chinese Foreigners To Market Fake Phones In Bali

Denpasar Immigration Office officials detained a foreign national (WNA) from China who markets state-of-the-art but fake cellular phones (cell phones) in Bali.

"Those who report to us are just one mobile counter worker," said Head of the Bali Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Anggiat Napitupulu, Monday, September 11.

The Chinese foreigner named Chen Yutong was detained for an in-depth examination in the detention room of the Denpasar Immigration Office on Thursday (31/8) after being arrested in Jakarta on Tuesday (29/8). Immigration arrested the perpetrator after tracking down his whereabouts, assisted by officers from the Directorate General of Immigration in Jakarta.

The 50-year-old man from Zhejiang Province, China markets 10 smartphones, one of the well-known brands, but the engine on the cellphone uses another brand. One unit of cell phone is sold obliquely, at a price of IDR 5 million.

In carrying out his actions, he targeted one by one the credit and cell phone stores in Denpasar and deceived one cell phone counter worker.

Based on Immigration data, Chen entered Indonesia through Soekarno Hatta Airport in Jakarta on April 8, 2023.

He entered Indonesia using a visit visa but it turned out that the perpetrator was selling fake cellphones.

Meanwhile, the perpetrator's residence permit expired on August 5, 2023 and has never extended his residence permit while in Indonesia.

"The perpetrator cannot speak Indonesian and English so in carrying out his actions he uses a google translator," he added.

Denpasar Immigration has submitted a notification letter for the start of the investigation to the Denpasar District Attorney to investigate the Chinese foreigner fraud case.

His party charged Chen with Article 122 of Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration with a maximum imprisonment of five years and a maximum fine of IDR 500 million.
