Seoul Holds Abandoned Pet Adoption Festival Today
JAKARTA - Seoul City will host an event to promote the adoption of abandoned pets, on Sunday.
The "festival" open to those who have adopted abandoned animals will be held on the roof of a building in Gangdong District, East Seoul from 13.00 p.m. to 16.00 p.m. local time.
The event will feature a swimming pool and playground for dogs, as well as a variety of programs, including dog-themed quiz contests, to counseling sessions with professional trainers.
Additionally, there will be an adoption promotion booth set up to introduce abandoned animals currently under the care of the Seoul Animal Care Center through photos and videos. Through this initiative, the city government aims to encourage the adoption of abandoned animals.
"Seoul has various projects to create an environment where humans and animals can live together happily. We hope that people will pay attention to abandoned pets and wait for families to live with them," said Lee Mi-sook, Head of the Animal Protection Division at the Seoul Metropolitan Government, reported by the Korea Times, September 9.

It is known that the number of abandoned animals has decreased for three consecutive years. The number reached an all-time high, namely 135,791 in 2019, but fell to 113,440 in 2022.
