The Minister Of Home Affairs Regarding The Proposal For Accelerated Regional Head Elections: Don't Take Risk
DENPASAR - Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian responded to the proposal to accelerate the regional elections from November 2024 to September or February 2024 by issuing a Perppu.
Tito said the proposed acceleration of the 2024 regional elections was in the hands of the KPU. Meanwhile, the presidential and legislative elections have been held in February 2024.
"It's up to the KPU people, the KPU is ready not to hold national elections, the presidential election is added with all the legislatures. All of them are complex, that's all the extraordinary complex," Tito said after attending the Handover of Positions (Sertijab) of Bali Governors, at Art Center, Denpasar, Bali, Friday, September 8.
Moreover, said Tito, the 2024 regional elections were held simultaneously in 522 regions in Indonesia. This condition is risky if the implementation is accelerated.
"And coupled with regional elections in all regions, 552 simultaneously. If the KPU is ready, the security forces are all ready, the government is all ready, we may just obey," he said.

"But it seems that the impact is too heavy to implement between national elections, legislatures, all levels until the regions are held again in simultaneous regional elections (in) 552 (regions). My opinion is, don't take too high risk. That's the first time we tried it," he said.
