Europe Announces List Of Gate Guard, Google, TikTok And Meta Included!
JAKARTA - The European Union (EU) has just announced a list of gatekeepers covering the platform of today's tech giants.
In the Digital Markets Act (DMA), there are rules for platforms that act as gatekeepers in the digital sector. This is a platform that has a significant impact on internal markets, serving as an important gateway for business users to reach their end users.
The DMA aims to prevent gatekeepers from applying unfair conditions to businesses and end users, as well as ensuring the openness of important digital services.
This means that gatekeepers must open access to their apps to third parties as well. In addition, the platform must also ensure that end users can easily delete apps that have been installed before or stop them by default.
On the other hand, gatekeepers need to ensure business users can gain access to performance data on advertising campaigns and advertising price information, allow developers to use alternative payment systems in the app, and provide interoperability options for messenger systems.
The technology companies included in the list are divided into several categories below.
Social Jejajaling: TikTok, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.
N-IICS (message service): WhatsApp and Messenger.
Intermediation: Google Maps, Google Play, Google Shopping, Amazon Marketplace, Apple App Store and Meta Marketplace.
Various Video Platforms: YouTube.
Advertising services: Google, Amazon and Meta.
Web browser: Chrome and Safari.
Search: Google Search.
Operating System: Android, iOS and Windows.

The platform is determined based on revenue and the number of users, they will be required to comply with a number of interoperability and competition rules starting March 2024.
If the gatekeeper does not comply with the obligations listed in the DMA, the European Commission could impose fines of up to 10 percent of the total turnover of companies around the world, which could reach 20 percent in the event of repeated violations.
It is known, the app must have at least 45 million monthly active users with revenues of 7.5 billion euros (Rp123 trillion) per year or market capitalization that exceeds 75 billion euros (Rp1,233 trillion).
However, the company has the opportunity to argue as gatekeepers by filing strong arguments as to why they should not be appointed despite having met the entire threshold.
In addition, the DMA will authorize the European Commission to conduct market investigations to assess in more detail the specific situation of a company and decide to continue to appoint the company as a gatekeeper based on a qualitative assessment, even if the company does not meet the quantitative threshold criteria.
