JAKARTA - Member of the Indonesian General Elections Commission (KPU) Mochammad Afifuddin said whatever the Constitutional Court's decision regarding the electoral system would not interfere with the implementation and implementation of the stages of the 2024 General Election.
"God willing, it will not (will interfere with the implementation and implementation of the 2024 General Election stage)," Afif said, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, May 31.
He said that in the future, the KPU is committed to carrying out the Constitutional Court's decision.
The chairman of the Indonesian KPU, Hasyim Asy'ari, has also conveyed the same thing at the Administrative Verification of the Indonesian Legislative Candidates (Caleg) in Jakarta, Monday, May 29.
Hasyim also said that while waiting for the Constitutional Court's decision, until now the KPU will still refer to an open proportional system in compiling ballots and other logistics for the 2024 General Election.
Previously, the Constitutional Court had received a request for a judicial review of Article 168 paragraph (2) of Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections (Pemilu) related to an open proportional system registered with case registration number 114/PUU-XX/2022 on November 14, 2022.
The six applicants are Demas Brian Wicaksono (applicants I), Yuwono Pintadi (applicants II), Fahrurrozi (applicants III), Ibnu Rachman Jaya (applicants IV), Riyanto (applicants V), and Nono Marijono (applicants VI).
If the judicial review of the Election Law regarding an open proportional system is granted by the Constitutional Court, the 2024 Election system will turn into a closed proportional system.
