The Rise Of Dog Bite Cases, Regency Government Sets KLB Rabies In The South Middle East Of NTT
KUPANG - The South Central Timor Regency Government (TTS) of East Nusa Tenggara Province set an extraordinary rabies (KLB) incident in the area after one resident in Fenun Village, South Amanatun District died due to being infected with the rabies virus.
"We have issued the KLB status last night and it is in effect," said TTS Regent Egusem Pieter Tahun, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, May 31.
This was conveyed by him related to the latest developments regarding the rabies problem which has now spread to seven sub-districts from 32 sub-districts in TTS Regency.
He added that the victim was bitten on April 2, 2023 at 01.00 WITA in front of his house and after that immediately contracted the deadly virus.
He mentioned the symptoms experienced by the victim such as fever, sore throat, unable to swallow, unable to drink water, anxiety or anxiety, fear of fire and seizures.
The Regent of TTS also emphasized to the public to bind or cage rabies-carrying animals, especially dogs, cats, and also monkeys.
The local government also added that he cooperated with relevant officials such as the National Police and the TNI to eliminate a number of rabies-infectious animals (HPR) that roam the community.

"After the instructions issued are ignored and the community still releases their animals such as cats, dogs and monkeys on the loose, we will destroy them," he added.
This, he said, was to prevent any more animals from contracting rabies and bite residents which led to death.
