PKS President Meets Din Syamsuddin To Discuss Anies' Assistance In The 2024 Presidential Election

JAKARTA - President of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) Ahmad Syaikhu met with former chairman of the Central Executive (PP) Muhammadiyah Din Syamsuddin. One of the discussions was related to the prospective vice presidential candidate (cawapres) accompanying Anies Baswedan.

Syaikhu expressed his goal of visiting Din, to find a vice presidential candidate who will accompany former DKI Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan as a presidential candidate in the 2024 election.

"I am now mandated to travel to various elements of this nation, Pak Din, to look for a vice presidential candidate to be proposed," Syaikhu said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, May 23.

He explained that PKS had officially joined the Change Coalition, which brought former governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan as a presidential candidate (candidate) for the 2024 General Election.

Three parties, namely PKS, the NasDem Party, and the Democratic Party, have agreed to sign the Amendment Coalition charter.

"I want to assure you that this coalition is solid to be able to carry the presidential and vice presidential candidates, what already exists is a new (bakal) presidential candidate. Later, we will hand over the (bakal) cawapres to the presidential candidates even though each party has the right, gives rights, provides input, who is the best according to the party," said Syaikhu.

Din also replied that Syaikhu's goal was to travel to a number of figures to find a vice presidential candidate, not during his visit to Din's residence.

"But, not during this visit," said Din.

Hearing Din's words, Syaikhu then teased Din that there was a possibility that he would become a vice presidential candidate for Anies Baswedan.

"I think maybe one of them is here," said Syaikhu with a laugh.

Din also replied that this could become a public conversation.

"That will be the headline later," replied Din.

Syaikhulalu said proposals related to the future vice presidential candidate would be submitted to the PKS Shura Council.

"We want what the results of my visits to various groups will still be submitted to the Shura Council. The Shura Council will discuss it and then propose it to the (bakal) presidential candidate," said Syaikhu.
