Daihatsu's Manipulation Test Scandal, CEO Of Toyota: The Car Remains Safe
JAKARTA - Some time ago, Daihatsu admitted to manipulating the collision test of tens of thousands of units from the Toyota car model.
Due to the scandal, it is estimated that 88,000 Toyota vehicles were affected by the manipulation carried out by Daihatsu. Nevertheless, Toyota confirmed that the affected vehicles remained safe.
Reporting from the Toyota page, Wednesday, May 10, Toyota Motor Corporation's President & CEO, Koji Sato, revealed that affected vehicles have no safety problems.
"Once again, it is certain that the vehicle in question does not have quality or safety problems," said Sato.
He also added that his party would continue the delivery and sale of the affected Toyota model to several countries.
"Based on the results of the re-test, and after consulting with relevant authorities, we have resumed deliveries of Toyota vehicles to Malaysia, Mexico and Ecuador," added Sato.
Sato also confirmed that the Toyota vehicles sent to Thailand and several Middle Eastern countries are safe for use and will consult with the relevant authorities. He also said the Chairman of Toyota, Akio Toyoda, would step in to explain this.
"Akio Toyoda visited Thailand to explain to our customers and stakeholders what happened and to convey that the vehicle is safe and that our entire group of companies is committed to working to prevent this type of error from happening," said Sato.
The manufacturer will also investigate the cause of Daihatsu's hit test manipulation, and will take serious action against this problem.

The 88,000 vehicles affected by manipulation consisted of 76,289 units of Toyota Yaris Ativ produced in August 2022 at the Daihatsu factory in Thailand and Malaysia. Then, there are 11,834 units of Perudua Axia (Keringwater of Toyota Agya) produced in February 2023.
