Federico Viticci Integrates ChatGPT into iPhone Apps Using New Shortcut
JAKARTA - A new shortcut has enabled iPhone users to integrate ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence (AI) platform that has become a global sensation, into their applications.
The shortcut is free to all users who have set up payment accounts with OpenAI's pay-as-you-go system, and supports conversation mode so users can use ChatGPT just like they would on a computer.
The shortcut allows users to ask ChatGPT via the input box on their iPhone, iPad or Mac, with the answer sent by ChatGPT and displayed in an alert on the user's device.
However, spoiler alert: the reason behind creating this shortcut isn't just that the developer needed help writing poetry on his phone.
The developer of the shortcut, Federico Viticci, said that he wanted to give Apple users the same access as Windows users. ChatGPT has teamed up with Microsoft and has been introduced in the new version of the tech giant's Bing search engine.
This partnership means iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and watchOS users will likely not be able to access ChatGPT in the same way without using Viticci's S-GPT (Shortcuts-GPT).
Viticci says that he wants to build a bridge between Apple and ChatGPT, similar to what Microsoft has been doing.
"I know that this is a lofty goal, and there are limits to the use of Shortcuts, but I look at how Microsoft operates and am jealous that the same is not true on Apple's platforms (and likely never will be)," added Viticci, quoted by the Daily. Mail.
It uses the developer API from OpenAI, which requires a small fee, which is why users who want to use this shortcut must have access to a pay-as-you-go payment system.
This shortcut can be used with the existing ChatGPT 3.5 model, or ChatGPT 4 if the user has access to that model.
This shortcut allows users to ask questions and get responses in the same 'session', as on a computer, while also saving a history of previous conversations and allowing users to view each conversation they had as a single transcript.

"I really think that S-GPT is the best and most sophisticated technical work I've ever done," said Viticci. "The ability to talk back and forth provides some great advantages over using Siri, for example, for certain tasks."
"Unlike other shortcuts for ChatGPT, your conversations are only sent to the OpenAI API: by default, this shortcut doesn't log or cache your conversations unless you ask it to export transcripts," he adds.
He also added: "S-GPT is designed to provide users with concise and clear answers that can be read in just a few seconds."
"I did it because S-GPT can be used both as a shortcut launched from the Shortcuts app, an icon on the Home Screen, or a widget, or as a shortcut that runs within Siri," he adds.
One example of using S-GPT is to create playlists with specific artists.
Users only need to provide commands, which are interpreted by ChatGPT and then sent back to S-GPT to name the playlist. Once that's done, the playlist will appear in the Apple Music App.
