Geological Agency Denies Mount Gede Eruption After Cianjur was Rocked by a 5.6 Magnitude Earthquake

JAKARTA - The Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (BKESDM) denied the information regarding the eruption at Mount Gede, after the 5.6 magnitude earthquake in Cianjur Regency, West Java.

The Head of the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) of the Geological Agency, Hendra Gunawan, confirmed that the status of Mount Gede was normal or level 1.

It is known that information is circulating regarding Mount Gede Pangrango erupting to release sparks of light and fire after an earthquake measuring 5.6 magnitudes rocked Cianjur, Monday, November 21, yesterday.

"Until now there has been no eruption. The condition of Mount Gede is normal or level 1, which means it's safe", said Hendra during a zoom meeting held by the Geological Agency, Tuesday, November 22.

Therefore, he asked the public to remain calm. Then trust the correct information, one of which is the government agency.

"So that people remain calm and follow the development of Mount Gede from official government agencies", he concluded.
