Dynamics Is Still Fluid, Airlangga And Prabowo's Meeting Has The Potential To Change Political Constellation At KIB

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto and Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto held a one-on-one meeting. Both reportedly discussed global and national issues related to economic independence.

According to the Executive Director of the Center for Indonesia Strategic Action (CISA) Herry Mendrofa, the conversation between the General Chairperson of Golkar and the General Chairperson of Gerindra was also about the political dynamics ahead of the 2024 General Election.

"Of course, talking about the 2024 process, especially these two leaders, both Airlangga and Prabowo have been or are currently in Golkar. We know that Prabowo is a former Golkar and also Airlangga is a Golkar cadre. I think there is a correlation, both cadres born from womb of Golkar," said Herry, Tuesday, September 20.

Herry assessed that the meeting that took place at the office of the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy yesterday opened up new possibilities, such as opportunities for inter-party cooperation that led to the Prabowo-Airlangga duo in the 2024 presidential election.

"In fact, I see that if for example there is a possibility for Prabowo and Airlangga to run together in a coalition, nothing is impossible. It's called politics, the dynamics per day are like that, so fluid," he said.

Herry said the meeting could also change the existing political constellation. According to him, Golkar needs coalition stability in the midst of internal party conflicts. Although admitted, he said, Golkar had joined the United Indonesia Coalition (KIB) with PAN and PPP.

"Moreover, at KIB, as of today, there has not been a strong name figure that will be carried. Also at KIB, there are a few ripples that interfere with the dynamics in the internal coalition, for example, PPP. In my opinion, it will be enough to disrupt political communication," he explained.

Herry added that dynamic conditions and full of surprises might continue until the 2024 General Election.

"The public will continue to be presented with many alternatives. So far, these axes have been formed, framed by the media and survey institutions. Maybe in the future, in 2024, we will be surprised by these political figures," he concluded.
